Abstract

Puskemas is a primary health care facility provided by goverment. Each Puskemas has their own policy in practicing medication days supply for patient with chronic disease. For hypertension patient it is important to maintain their blood pressure to prevent them developing risk factor such as coronary heart disease, stroke, heart failure and kidney failure. The different medication days supply also effect the frequency of patient refilling their prescription, the more frequent patient visiting Puskemas for refilling their prescription the more cost for example transportation cost incure by patient. Thus, adherence in medication is necessary to prevent complication occurrence. This study aim to investigate the effect of medication days supply on adherence and cost in patient with hypertension at Puskemas in Central Surabaya. The study had been conducted since February 2017 until May 2017 with non-random sampling technique. A total 96 responden were interviewed to collect all information related to the cost incurred by patient in receding month. The cost include in this study was direct medical cost, direct non medical cost, and indirect cost. The self administered ARMS questionnaire was used to measure patient adherence. This study found that medication day supply influence the patient adherence with the significant figure 0,019 (p<0,05), but medication day supply is not significantly influence the total cost with the significant figure 0,592 (p>0,05).
