Abstract

Abdominal obesity cases in Indonesia has gradually increase time to time. Abdominal obesity is a situation when there is fat excess in abdomen. The triggers can be over consumption of high calories food, less consumption of fiber, and lack of physical activities. This research aim to analyze differences of knowledge level, intake level, and physical activity on women with either abdominal obesity or non abdominal in Kelurahan Magersari Sidoarjo. This research was an observational analitic comparative, used cross sectional design. The samples were 58 women, taken by simple random sampling. Data were collected by measuring abdominal circumference, measuring weight and height, knowledge questionnaires, food recall 2x24 hours, FFQ, and IPAQ. Data were analyzed using Independent t-test and Mann Whitney Test. The results showed that there were differences in energy intake (p=0,000), carbohydrate intake (0,001), protein intake (p=0,000), fat intake (p=0,000), and physical activity (p=0,041) between women with abdominal obesity and non abdominal. Meanwhile, for the knowledge level (p=0,725), fiber intake (p=0,076), frequency of fried foods consumption (p=0,335), frequency of fatty foods consumption (p=0,498), and frequency of sweet foods consumption (p=0,581) there were no differences between women with abdominal obesity and non abdominal. The conclusion of this research was that women with abdominal obesity had higher intake of energy, carbohydrate, protein, and fat compared to women obesity with non abdominal. Women with abdominal obesity needed to improve the consumption of nutrition and increased physical activity to reduce body fat.
