Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of sulfonate group in synthesis of 4-[4-oxo-2-phenylquinazolin-3(4H)-yl]benzenesulfonic acid was compared with synthesis 2,3-diphenylquinazolin-4(3H)-one. The reaction between 2-phenyl-4H-benzo[d][1,3]oxazin-4-one with aniline gave 2,3-diphenylquinazolin-4(3H)-one, while the reaction between 2- phenyl-4H-benzo[d][1,3]oxazin-4-one and sulfanilic acid gave 4-[4-oxo- 2-phenylquinazolin-3(4H)-yl]benzenesulfonic acid. The synthesize were completed by microwave irradiation in same condition, except time of synthesis that determined the completing reaction. But that reaction with aniline did not obtain 2,3-diphenylquinazolin-4(3H)-one and it was obtained 2-benzamido-N-phenylbenzamide. 2-benzamido-N-phenylbenzamide was obtained as lightweight and white powder with 70 minutes to completing the reaction, while 4-[4-oxo- 2-phenylquinazolin-3(4H)-yl]benzenesulfonic acid was obtained as lightweight and yellowish powder with 10 minutes to completing the reaction. The structure of resulted compounds were confirmed by UVVis spectrophotometer, IR spectrophotometer and 1H-NMR spectrometer. It was concluded that sulfonate group was responsible to increase reactivity and decrease the time to completing reaction in the synthesis of 4-[4-oxo-2-phenylquinazolin-3(4H)-yl]benzenesulfonic acid. The time to completing reaction of synthesis 4-[4-oxo-2-phenylquinazolin-3(4H)- yl]benzenesulfonic acid was lower than the time to completing reaction of synthesis 2-benzamido-N-phenylbenzamide.
