Abstract

The aims of this study was to determine the effect of crosslinking of pregelatinized elephant foot yam starch on the physical characteristics of tablet. Methods were initiated by natural starch processing from elephant foot yam starch, and then crosslinking process with 1% and 2% phosphate levels. Further observed swelling power, microscopic, x-ray, and DSC. After the characterization process was completed, the natural starch, pregelatinized starch, and pregelatinization phosphate starch were applied to the disintegrants, and tested the physical quality of the tablet that is hardness, the friability and the disintegration time. The results showed that the amount of crosslinker affected the tablets friability and hardness.
