Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the influence of pregelatinization towards elephant foot yam (Amorpophallus paeonifolius) starch as disintegrant against tablet physical quality profile of the Paracetamol tablet. The pregelatinized starch was heated at two different temperatures, 60oC and 70oC, and dryed with drum dryer. There was 4 formula of paracetamol tablet that contain natural starch of elephant foot yam (PAS), pregelatinized at 60oC starch (PPS 1), pregelatinized at 70oC starch (PPS 2), and sodium starch glycolate (SSG) as disintegrant at the same concentration. The method of producing paracetamol was wet granulating. The result was compared each other. Tablet formula with pregelatinized starch could decrease hardness, increase disintegration but didn’t give a significant influence of friability. The different of disintegration wasn’t showed a correlation with values of swelling power.
