Abstract

Total Abdominal Hysterectomy Bilateral Salpingo Oophorectomy (TAH BSO) is the execution of gynecological surgery aimed at eliminating uterus, cervix, and both tuba tubes as well as ovary. This research is aimed at exploring the sexual experience of woman post the TAH BSO surgery. Methods: This research applied in-depth interview method towards 7 post TAH BSO surgery participants in Rumah Sakit Haji Surabaya. Result and Analysis: This research had resulted 4 themes: (1) Psychological acceptance pre the TAH BSO surgery which are the feelings of shock, afraid, saddened and eventually a sincere acceptance. (2) The sexual activity happening after TAH BSO had cost the majority of patients experiencing the decline of sexual desire, lubrication, and the decrease of intensity on sexual activities, however there are a number of patients whom are still able to experience orgasm during sexual intercourse. (3) The response towards the problem is positive supports of husband and the decline of the frequency of sexual intercourse. (4) The concept of self in this research explains both positive and negative self-judgments and defends socialization and social interaction. Discussion and Conclusion: This research resulted 4 conclusions: (1) The initial response of the patients during the TAH BSO surgery are frightened, saddened but eventually accepting the occurred condition and after undergoing the TAH BSO surgery, the patients felt relieved, (2) The patients after TAH BSO surgery, experienced the decrease of sexual activities, however there are patients who did not feel the decline of lubrication and were able to feel the orgasm, this is due to a good psychological condition. (3) Patients require attention from husband and family, (4) Patients are able to develop a normal life and develop social life. The advice for further research requires a deep observation towards the husband and the family of patient
