Abstract

Background: Traditional medicine has been one of the methods of therapy which is widely used in Indonesia. There are a lot of nature sources which being used for medicine treatment. One of them is goat bile duct (Capra hircus). Goat bile duct is belief has a lot of benefits for cure, such as : antimalaria, vitality supplement, optical atrophy, blindness, etc. The whole bile duct is swallowed to avoid the bitterness of its taste. People believe in the efficacy of goat bile duct to treat some diseases and has easy access into it, but there is no studies have tested the toxicity of it. Objectives: To determine the acute toxicity of goat bile duct (Capra hircus) on Wistar rats Methods: This study is a true type of experimental research done in Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Medicine in Airlangga University School of Medicine Surabaya. The object used is 30 Wistar rats. The goat bile duct is taken using spuits and mixed with water in some different concentrations. The rats were randomly divided into 5 groups based on concentrations which would be given. They are 12,5%, 25%, 50% and 100%. After that, each concentrations are taken about 3 ml and inserted by oral galvage into all of the rats which has been divided into 5 category. After a day, the result of the experiment can be seen. Result: There is no death among the rats which has been given each doses of goat bile duct (Capra hircus). Conclusion : Based on this study, goat bile duct has no acute toxicity for diseases treatment.
