Abstract
The number of smokers in many countries is increasing every day. It occurs in both developing countries and developed countries. Smoking behavior seen from every point of view is harmful. Objective: To determine the reasons why male students of 12th grade in SMAN 5 Surabaya are smoking. Method: A qualitative study by interviewing respondent to know the factors why they are smoking. The techniques that used to retrieve respondent in this research is purposive sampling Result: From interviews conducted on 15 respondents, researchers found that environment, social, friends, personal, or even family are the factors which causes male students of 12th grade to smoke. Conclusion: Environment, social, friends, personal, or even family are the factors which causes male students of 12th grade to smoke.
