Abstract

Background: Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) is the most commonly used tumor marker for colorectal cancer. High CEA level before surgery shows poor prognosis, high possibility of relapse, the presence of metastases, the enlargement of the tumor, not radically excision and the decreased life expectancy. The degree of differentiation in anatomical pathology examination is also associated with prognosis. well differentiated is better than the undifferentiated conditions. Objective: the aim of this study is to analyze the correlation between carcinoembryonic antigen levels and differentiation grade in colorectal cancer of RSUD Dr Soetomo Surabaya between 1st January 2016 untill 31st December 2016. Methods: this research is a cross-sectional study using secondary data using medical records. The number of subjects based on total sampling as many as 45 subjects. The data was analyzed with spearman test. Results: The results showed a low correlation and negative relationship between CEA levels and degree of differentiation in colorectal cancer with correlation coefficient (r) = -0.114 (-1 <r <1) and there is no correlation between CEA level and differentiation degree significant value of p = 0.458 (p <0.05) There is no correlation
