Abstract

Ptyas mucosus snake is known in various literatures as Indo-China Rat Snake or commonly referred to as Jali snake or Bandotan Macan snake. Ptyas Mucosus snakes are hunted for consumption by some rural communities in Indonesia. The aim of this research to identify and analyze parasites (ectoparasites, helminths, pentastomides) that infect P. mucosus snakes from snake collector in Tulangan, Sidoarjo, East Java by morphology and prevalence. Sixty snake were observed in the presence of parasites on the scales, subcutaneous, musculus, respiratory tract and digestive tract. Parasites collection were taken to the laboratory of Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University to be identified. The results showed that from 60 identified snake P. mucosus, found 54 snakes infected with parasites. Four snakes infected with ectoparasites Aponomma gervaisi on the scales, 41 snakes infected with larvae Spirometra sp on the subcutaneous and musculus, and 39 snakes infected with pentastomida Kiricephalus pattoni on the respiratory tract. The total prevalence parasites infection of P. mucosus is 90%. Based on the type of parasite prevalence are 6.7% of A. gervaisi, 68% of Spirometra sp., 65% of K. pattoni. This is the first report on cases of sparganosis and pentastomiasis in P. mucosus in Sidoarjo East Java.
