Abstract
This study is a study of the existence of female jihadist who is reflected through the four female jihadists in Palestine in Laskar Mawar novel by Barbara Victor. This study aims to (1) reveal the existence of female jihadis articulated in Laskar Mawar novel by Barbara Victor, and (2) describe the views of orientalism in Laskar Mawar novel by Barbara Victor. This research utilizes the concept of existentialism feminism initiated by Simone De Beauvoir and orientalism theory from Edward Said to see the depiction of East done by Barbara Victor as West. The existence of female jihadists raised in the novel is seen through the actions of the four female jihadists who committed suicide bombings. Based on the existence of the female jihadists, it can be seen that there is a depiction of the East from a Western point of view, that is Barbara Victor as a novel writer considering her dominance in narrating the story of jihadist women in Palestine. This research is a qualitative analytical descriptive research whose data is novel Laskar Mawar that examines the existence of female jihadis along with the depiction of the East from a Western point of view. This study uses data analysis of close reading as well as detailed noting. The results of this study indicate that there is a depiction of the existence of female jihadist who is reflected in the four female jihadist figures of suicide bombers, it is the way female jihadists show their existence as subject by utilizing their death to freedom. The female jihadist resistance embodied in the form of suicide bombing jihad according to Barbara Victor refers to the depraved East portrayal of a weak society in formal, traditional, violent, and irrational education. The ill-defined portrayal of the East from the resistance of female jihadists aims to show the East's easternity and the superiority of the West.
