Abstract

Background : Ketabang health centers since 2008 have long provided health promotion activities about HIV/AIDS, at public high school state 1 in Wijaya Kusuma complex area, but has not been evaluated. The aim of this study was to analyze the increased knowledge of HIV/AIDS on one group of students of SMA Negeri 1 Surabaya before and after being treated by lecture. Method : This study using pre-experimental with one group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 50 students, given just one treatment in the form of lectures HIV / AIDS. Before and after the lecture will be conducted a pre-test and a post-test questionnaire regarding HIV-AIDS. The different value conducted by Wilcoxon test. Students' knowledge about HIV / AIDS were assessed include: Knowledge in general, the virus that causes, early symptoms, mode of transmission, Ways and attitude towards the prevention of HIV / AIDS. Result : In the category of virus and modes of transmission of 100% of the students managed to get a good score. General knowledge 98% were able to get a good score and the rest get a pretty good score. Knowledge of early symptoms of the increase is also significant, only 4% of students who received a score of less and very less. How to prevent 92% of students get a good score and good enough. Those who have less knowledge about prevention attitudes fell from 64% to 26% The result shows a significant difference before and after the lecture as follows: General knowledge (p = 0.001), the virus that causes (p = 0.001), early symptoms (p = 0.001), modes of transmission (p = 0.001), prevention (p = 0.006), and the attitude of prevention methods (p = 0.001). Conclusions: The health promotion by lectures can enhance the knowledge of students in SMA Negeri 1 Surabaya.
