Abstract
The question of whether body mass index (BMI) affects sperm quality is controversial. The objective of this study was to assess the relationships between BMI and sperm quality in Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia. Methods : The study design was observational retrospective-cross sectional. Semen analysis data were taken from medical records of the patients. 502 Men were classified into 4 groups according to their BMI, which are underweight (<18.5), normal (18.5-25), overweight (25.1-27), and obese (>27). The data were analysed using Fisher’s exact test. Results : No significant differences were observed between the groups in term of all semen parameters, which are sperm concentration, sperm motility, and sperm morphology.
