Abstract
Introduction : Perinatal transmission is one of the most common hepatitis B virus (HBV) transmission worldwide, especially in many endemic areas. More than 50 million people are infected with hepatitis B every year with the majority occurs from mother to fetus. World Health Organization (WHO) recommended routine screening of Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg) in pregnant women. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between level of knowledge about hepatitis B and HBsAg screening behavior among pregnant women in Integrated Service Unit of Wringinanom Public Health Center Gresik. Methods : A cross-sectional survey, was conducted among pregnant women in Integrated Service Unit of Wringinanom Public Health Center Gresik. Level of knowledge about hepatitis B and HBsAg screening behavior was measured using a questionnaire. HBsAg screening behavior in pregnancy was confirmed with secondary data from the medical record. Data analysis was done by univariate and bivariate analysis. Results : Most of the pregnant women (57,1%) in Integrated Service Unit of Wringinanom Public Health Center Gresik had lack of knowledge about hepatitis B, while the rest of them (42,9%) had good knowledge about the disease. Most of the pregnant women (64,2%) in Integrated Service Unit of Wringinanom Public Health Center Gresik had already done the HBsAg screening. There was a significant correlation between level of knowledge about hepatitis B and HBsAg screening behavior among pregnant women in Integrated Service Unit of Wringinanom Public Health Center Gresik (p=0,026). Conclusion : Most of the pregnant women in Integrated Service Unit of Wringinanom Public Health Center Gresik had lack of knowledge about hepatitis B. Most of the pregnant women in Integrated Service Unit of Wringinanom Public Health Center Gresik had already done the HBsAg screening. There was a significant correlation between level of knowledge about hepatitis B and HBsAg screening behavior among pregnant women in Integrated Service Unit of Wringinanom Public Health Center Gresik.
