Abstract

Background: In America, chronic pain makes 116 million adults spend $560-635 million for treatment and unproductive losses. Treatment of postoperative pain usually use opioids, but the results have not been satisfying. Objective: This study aims to describe the correlation between pain and factors that affect pain. Method: We reviewed medical records of pediatric patients retrospectively who have undergone laparotomy surgery in the period of 2016-2017 in Soetomo Hospital. There were 30 pediatric patients included in the inclusion. After that we tested using chi square test. Result: There were 30 pediatric patients included in the inclusion. There were 1 in 30 (3%) patients experiencing no pain, 6 in 30 (20%) patients experiencing mild pain, 18 in 30 (60%) patients experiencing moderate pain, and 5 in 30 (17%) patients experiencing severe pain. After the statistical test there are gender, diagnostic differences, and general anesthesia may affect the level of pain. However, age, complications, and premedication measures does not affect the level of pain. Conclution: Gender, diagnostic differences, and general anesthesia may affect the level of pain.
