Abstract

Background: The concept of body mass index may not be well understood by patient. Weight loss and decrease of body mass index in intensive care unit patients has been attributed with significant morbidity and mortality. Malnutrion is a common problem which happened on patient. Nutrion of status can give an impact on healing illness. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the weight that can give impact to body mass index changes before admission day and after discharge from ROI – IGD Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya. Method: Observational analitic research had been performed to urgent patients who had intensive care in ICU Dr. Soetomo Hospital Suarabaya. We collected demographic data (gender, age, length of stay, and APACHE II ACORE) and We collected Body Mass Index of the patient in admission day and discharge day. The data of Body Mass Index will be analyzed with SPSS to know difference before and after. Results: The patients were 29 patients with proportion of 62% male and 38% female. The patients ranged in age from 13 to 65 years old, with 52% patients in age 18-40 years old. Length of stay patients most in 2-4 day (34%) with the most APACHE II SCORE is on 11-20 point (57%).The mean of the patient’s weight on admission day is 62,7 with the weight minimum score 40,0 and maximum 85,0. The mean of the patient’s weight on discharge day is 61,5 with the weight minimum score 41,0 dan maximum 84,5. The mean of the patient’s BMI on admission day is 24,4 with the BMI minimum score 14,7 and maximum 30,0. On discharge day the mean BMI is 23,82 with the BMI minimum score 15,0 and maximum 29,30. From the statistic we got significant decrease (p-value) 0,001 < 0,05 for weight and BMI. Conclusion: There is difference weight and Body Mass Index before admission day and after discharge day on ICU’s patients.
