In analyzing the data, the writer uses narrative and non-narrative of film analysis to support the study. Karen Horney’s theory of neurosis is the expanded theory of Freud's psychoanalysis which becomes the basic theory of this study. The writer focuses on aggression neurotic trend and self-protective mechanisms for the theory. In result, this study figures out that The Man from U.N.C.L.E as an American film tries to create an issue that the absence of father figure will lead a man’s behavior to become an aggressive person as the defense against the breakdown of the anxiety. Besides, this issue builds a perspective that the absence of father figure becomes a power to gain the life goal for man. Horney’s self-protective mechanisms and neurotic trend successfully show how the main character defends his own basic anxiety.
