Abstract

Globally, more than 2 million children under five die of pneumonia from 9 million total under-five mortality in each year. In developing countries, 60% of cases of pneumonia were caused by bacteria and in developed countries caused by viruses. In 2014, pneumonia was the third that cause of death in children under five in Indonesia. Every hour, 2-3 death of children under five caused by pneumonia. In 2009,proportion of case of pneumonia with URIs was 7,4% in all age group (Kemenkes RI,2010). East Java, one of a province that improving pneumonia prevalence in 2007-2013 (Kemenkes RI,2014). In Surabaya, pneumonia in children under five was decrease than a year before. The purpose of this study was to arrange a predictive index of The Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URIs) with Pneumonia in Children under five years in Surabaya. The sample consisted of case samples and control samples. Number of control samples: case = 1: 1. A total of 66 case samples and 66 control samples were taken proportionally at each Public Health Center. The Results of multiple logistic regression obtained 2 variables that affect the pneumonia of children under five and became an indicator of the density of home-dwelling and exclusive breastfeeding. Results Formula index: -1,364 +1,224 exclusive breastfeeding (not exclusive breastfeeding) +1,505 dwelling density (solid). Value cut off index 0 with a sensitivity of 71,2% and specificity 68.2%. Cut off 0 means: if index score <0 then predicted a low risk of pneumonia in infants. If the score ≥0 then predicted high risk. Conclusion: There were factors that influence the occurrence of pneumonia in children five year that is house density and exclusive breastfeeding. In addition, it can also be used as the prevention of pneumonia in children under five years.
