Abstract

A child with Down Syndrome is a unique individual with its own character and personality. Chromosome developmental abnormalities that occur on chromosome 21 cause children with Down Syndrome to develop growth problems, physically, intellectually, and emotionally (DSA, 2017). Sexual problems that occur in Down Syndrome children such as sexual harassment, sexual violence, exploitation or deviant sexual behavior can not always be seen and heard. In addition, the absence of a special assessment system for Down Syndrome children resulted in difficulties in their sexuality detection. The purpose of this research is to analyze the description of knowledge and attitude of parents on child sexuality with Down Syndrome. This research design using descriptive research method with survey approach. The sample of this study were parents who had children with Down Syndrome with age ≥ 6 years and as active members in the Parent Association of Children with Down Syndrome (POTADS) Surabaya, Parent Children Association with Down Syndrome (POTADS) Bali, and Peduli Kasih Anak Berkebutuhan Khusus Foundation. Sampling technique uses Consecutive Sampling. This research variable is the knowledge and attitude of the parents. The research instrument used questionnaire. Data analysis used univariate data analysis. Result of research from 55 respondents is 29,1% respondents have good knowledge and 43,6% of respondents are knowledgeable enough, 69,1% of respondents have positive attitude, 68,8% of respondents with good knowledge have positive attitude. The conclusion is that half of parents have enough knowledge towards the child's sexuality with Down Syndrome. Most parents have positive attitude towards the child's sexuality with Down Syndrome.Most parents have good knowledge and enough and have a positive attitude towards the child's sexuality with Down Syndrome.
