Abstract

This study aims to prove acid neutralization and antiflatulence activities of Cinnamomum zeylanicum Ness cortex and Syzygium aromaticum L. leaf which have been formulated in antacid syrup preparation used in vitro artificial gastric acid neutralization test (Wu method) and antiflatulence foam removal test (Rezak modification method). The result of antacid activity of Cinnamomum zeylanicum Ness cortex and Syzygium aromaticum L. leaf ethanol extract syrup formula I (1:1), formula II (2:2) and formula III (3:3) were showed that formula I given acid neutralization during 1.75± 0.50 minutes, formula II during 63.47 ± 4.72 minutes and formula III during 18.22 ± 2.07 minutes. The result of antiflatulence activity of formula I, II, and III of Cinnamomum zeylanicum Ness cortex and Syzygium aromaticum L. leaf ethanol extract syrup showed foam removing activities with the rest of the foam level of representative 1.7 ± 0.2 cm, 1.9 ± 0.1 cm and 2.2 ± 0.1 cm. It is based on One Way Anova statistical analysis method and Post Hoc Test with Least Significant Difference (LSD) test method. The p value of the formula II and III were 0.000 for antacid and all formulas didn’t showed significant difference in foam removal (p>0.05) for antiflatulent. It can be concluded that in formula II (2:2) and formula III (3:3) had activity as antacid than other doses.
