Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the effect of Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana Linn.)pericarp extract on the thickness of mice (Mus musculus) endometrium. Mangosteen pericarp extract consists isoflavone and xanthone that can reduce the thickness of mice endometrium by inhibit estrogen production and block estrogen from binding with its receptors. This study was using twenty female mice (with 25 gram) that divided into five groups. C (-) administrated orally 0,5 ml NaCMC solution, C (+) 0,26 ml/ 20g Mycrogynon, T (1) 100 mg/Kg BW, T (2) 200 mg/Kg BW and T (3) 300 mg/Kg BW mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana Linn.) pericarp extract. Each group received the treatments for 12 days. The endometrium tissue was obtained at the end of treatments by using paraffin embedding methods and stained with Hematoxilyn-eosin. The thickness of mice endometrium was observed under microscope with 200x magnification and using Opti Lab Viewer and Image Raster 3 application. The data analyzed using One Way ANOVA and didn’t show significant difference (p>0,05) among them. The result of this study was the mice which given by Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana Linn) pericarp extract didn’t have thinner endometrium then other mice.
