Abstract

Carp is one of the freshwater fishery commodities in which is able to develop rapidly every year. Its production growth has a great potential to be developed and encouraged in order to fulfill the nutrition of people. Based on IP2TP (2000), the supply of good quality fish seed is one of the main requirement in order to improve the productivity of freshwater aquaculture business. In addition, hatchery is one way to overcome the increasing need of carp seed. Thus, the purpose of fieldwork practice is to find out and observe the technique of carp hatchery (Cyprinus carpio) directly. Fieldwork Practice was accomplished in the Regional Technical Implementation Unit of Fishery Cultivation, Processing and Marketing Sleman, Yogyakarta. It was held on January 20 to February 18, 2017. Furthermore, the methods used by are interviews and observation to collect the data. Hatchery technique of carp is conducted naturally by UPT PBP Sempu Fishery. Additionally, the types of carp used are Majalaya and local fish. Also, it consists of container preparation, parent selection, spawning, egg penetration, larvae maintenance, feeding, water quality measurement, pest and disease control and harvesting. By using this technique, some difficulties found were that there is no control of water management sector, the availability of feed and comprehensive area.
