Abstract

In the world of today, media is one of the most influential parties we have in this world. Media is a tool to store and deliver information or data. By consuming media, you can be aware of what is going on in any parts of the world, such as economics, politics, and educations. Media also have a role in creating and shaping of public opinion. In the present time, media become an advertising place for advertisers. Information media is divided into several types such as new age media, electronic media, and printed media. One of the most popular printed media companies in Indonesia is Jawa Pos. Jawa Pos is a national newspaper which provides both national and international news. Through the leadership of Dahlan Iskan, Jawa Pos is internationally acclaimed and has achieved a lot of world awards in various categories. The existence of Jawa Pos newspaper gave the writer a chance to do internship there. The writer did his internship as an translation-journalist at Economy and Business Division in Jawa Pos newspaper started from 17th February 2015 until 20th March 2015. During the internship in Jawa Pos, the writer has got many useful experience. He learned a lot about how to be a good translation-journalist especially in the Economy fields. The writer could apply his skill in translating the articles from English to Bahasa because he had a responsibility to produce international news. In this matter, the writer also learned about journalistic process that includes searching for news from foreign news agencies, combining news from different sources, translating news from English into Bahasa with the proper grammar, and editing news by adding some improvisation to make the article more interesting. In doing the internship, the writer did not only learn about translation and journalism, but also learned to improve the soft skill, such as discipline, optimism, integrity, communication, and socializing. This amazing experience, therefore, has made the writer feel proud and grateful for being a part of Jawa Pos since it is the biggest printed media company in Indonesia. The writer suggests that Jawa Pos can maintain a good work in order to remain successful as it is now and will hopefully gain more achievements. In addition, the writers also hopes that Jawa Pos can always give the opportunities for interns to learn there. For the next interns who are interested in doing an internship with Jawa Pos, the writer recommends them to prepare themselves on the subjects they have learned from studying in English Diploma. Jawa Pos is by far the most suitable place for students to learn more on journalism, especially in translating and rewriting news. Last but not least, the writer also suggests English Diploma to keep the networking with the company and giving some practical skills and internship experience for the students of English Diploma.
