Abstract

This study aims to analyse the objectification to Miri by patriarchy and how the fight against the objectification by Miri in Shannon Hale‘s Princess Academy (2015). The novel tells about the competition of the mountain girls to be the prince‘s bride. Their village, Mount Eskel is divined to be the place of the prince‘s bride by the priests through the council. The main female protagonist, Miri faces the dilemma to choose if she needs to be the princess or contribute to help her village. In this study, women objectification issue is chosen as the topic. The main female protagonist, Miri becomes the focus on the analysis. The theory of objectification that is applied in this study covers the objectification‘s features by Martha Nussbaum and Rae Langton that consist of ten features of objectification. To collect the data for this study, the plot of the novel and the characterization become the main points. In analysing the objectification to Miri, there are only seven out of the ten objectification‘s features. In examining the fight against the objectification by Miri, there are only four features that can be fought by Miri. From the analysis of the two main points, Miri still hardly gets out from the oppression of the objectification to herself in the novel.
