Abstract

Juvenile delinquency is increasing these days that occurs in adolescents and it dangerous for adolescents future. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between social support, self-esteem, and social interaction with juvenile delinquency at SMPN 13 Surabaya based on Lawrence Green behavior theory. This was correlational research with cross sectional approach. The population were adolescents in SMPN 13 Surabaya. Sample were 100 respondents, taken according to simple random sampling. The independent variable were social support, self-esteem, social interaction. The dependent variable was juvenile delinquency. Data were collected by using questionnaires and analysed by using spearman rho with level of significance α≤ 0.05. Result showed that there was significant relationship between social support and juvenile delinquency (p=0.002; r=0.310) in adolescents at SMPN 13 Surabaya. Spearman‟s rho correlation value of 0.310 indicates positive correlation with weak correlation coefficients. Another dependent variable are self-esteem and social interaction. Result showed that there was significant relationship between self-esteem and juvenile delinquency (p=0.000; r=0.840) in adolescents at SMPN 13 Surabaya. Spearman‟s rho correlation value of 0.840 indicates positive correlation with strong correlation coefficients. Result showed that there was significant relationship between social interaction and juvenile delinquency (p=0.000; r=0.738) in adolescents at SMPN 13 Surabaya. Spearman‟s rho correlation value of 0.738 indicates positive correlation with strong correlation coefficients. In conclusion, social support, self-esteem, and social interaction give influence to juvenile delinquency, if parents have low support to their children it can make more higher juvenile delinquency in adolescents. If parents didn‟t give teaching about selfesteem and social interaction it can make increasing the number of juvenile delinquency. Because if adolescents have low self-esteem and social interaction they can have high number of juvenile delinquency.
