Abstract

Class system and social status occur in every country in the world. Social class is divided into two categories based on the ownership of the means of production. It views those who have the means of production as the dominant culture that are rich and superior while other people who do not have the means of production are viewed as poor and inferior. This class issue has been occurring in many countries especially in United States, a place for massive global transmigration between people with diverse background from over the world. This study discusses about class issue in a movie entitled The Circle (2017). The movie talks about the effort of working class towards the ruling class and how she survives in Technology company. The aims of this study are to understand the social class structure and false consciousness that affected by technlogy and to reveal the influence of false consciousness on the character of Mae in The Circle (2017) movie. This research uses qualitative method, also narrative and non-narrative aspects to analyze the selected scenes. The writer uses theory from Marxist approach as the framework of the deep analysis on this study. From this study, it is known that people are easily programmed by the dominant ideology that indirectly motivate them to be as competent as the superior ones. As long as they are aware on the dominant ideology that has been wrapped as a natural way of seeing the world, the working class is no longer trapped in false consciousness and enable them to resist the ideologies of the ruling class.
