Abstract

The writing of Cybersex and Woman Objectification in S.J. Watson’s Second Life is inspired by a modern literary work with simply natural story; in terms of the language and writing that the author has used which is a reflection of common lifestyle in today’s society. The turmoil in the novel situates when the family relationships move their focus to online sex-cyber or cybersex ignoring the effects of crime. The story reflects two sides of a woman’s life which contains the positive, caring side as well as the negative, irrational side that relies on human emotions, recovery and addiction, love and hate, responsibility and abandonment. The male author describes some of the protagonist’s mistakes that bring her in to a double life, full of conflicts and complexity. Also it is a reflection of today’s moral crisis that shows in the female objectifications and the existence of inequality in traditional gender roles that socially constructed to keep women powerless. As a patriarchal woman, the protagonist was socially programed by the ideology system that causes destruction for her, family, and other people lives. By then the objective can be seen in away how the cybersex can cause protagonist’s objectification, and how is depicting her response in order to defend herself and her family from the objectification. In this thesis the writer will use the theoretical framework from Martha Nussbaum’s theory, and for the research method will use qualitative data analysis in order to find the relevance to the aims of the research. The result for this study is to find the anticipation of right response in victim’s emotions towards objectification. Indeed the resistance of feminism is remaining long struggle as ongoing movement for straight feminists that it brings hope to promote the appreciation of women’s values around the world in all aspects of their life.
