Abstract
This thesis purposes at speculating some issues about stereotyping, othering, mimicry, and identity in the scheme of postcolonial theory through the visual narrative of Gene Luen Yang’s American Born Chinese graphic novel. The questions are the vehicle to investigate the life that experienced by the Monkey King, Jin Wang, Wei-Chen, Danny, and Chin-Kee as the diaspora characters in order to find their identity. Furthermore, this thesis aims to reach a new finding that diaspora people can be proud of their origin identity instead of facing the gap between two cultures and new identity. This reason creates new insight and makes this thesis different from previous studies in literature review. The data sample conducted by classifying the scenes which are related to the issue. There are some selected scenes to analyze using graphic novel’s method such as panel, gutter, speech balloon, etc.
