Abstract

Introduction: Contact dermatitis is a polymorphic skin disorder as a result of contact with exogenous materials. Contact dermatitis in the elderly is chronic and recurrent that can cause psychological distress conditions such as stress and body image disturbance. Garra rufa care with the environmental modification based on Florence’s Theory is an intervention that can be given to clients with skin diseases one of which is contact dermatitis. This study aims to determine the effect of Garra rufa care on changes in stress levels of elderly who have contact dermatitis. Methods: This study used quasy experimental with pre-test and post-test control group design. The respondents were 22 elder peoples who have contact dermatitis in UPTD Griya Werdha Jambangan Surabaya and UPT PS Tresna Werdha Pasuruan. The samples were taken by purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaire and analyzed by Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney statistic test with the level of significant 0,05 (p<0.05). Results: The results showed changes in stress levels in the treatment group (p=0,003) and in the control group showed that p=0,063. The result from Mann Whitney test showed that p=0,002. Discussion: The results indicate the intervention of Garra rufa care with environmental modification is able to provide a relaxed sensation that affects the decrease in stress of elderly who have contact dermatitis.
