Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding is very important to babies. Although the exclusive breastfeeding is very important but the prevalence of mother with exclusive breastfeeding was still low. Especially in the study place. The aim of this study was to analyze factors related to exclusive breastfeeeding practice. Methods: All mothers who have children 7 months up to 5 years old and visited in a Primary Health Care mother-children health center departement during April 2018. They were asked to participate this study. Respondent characteristics are age, occcupation status, and family composition. And the independent variable were academic level, role of spouse for succes breastfeeding, economic level, knowledge from respondent about exclusive breastfeeding, condition of breast milk in first week lactation, parity status, history of exclusive breastfeeding, conseling history, training of lactation, and health disruption. As well as exclusive breastfeeding status were collected and analysed using appropriate bivariate statistic (SPSS 16). Result: Out 126 respondents, 86 of them have the exclusivebreastfe eding failure. Majority of respondents (76%) were 20-35 years old, (83%)house wife, and (63%)nuclear family. There were associate between exclusive breasfeeeding failure with academic level (basic level=52%,medium=43%, high=5%, p=0,006), role of spouse for succes breastfeeding (n support=57%, support=43%, p=0,009), respondent’s knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding (low=25%, medium=12%, high level=63%,p=0,031), condition of breastmilk in first week lactation (much=80%, less=20%, p=0,049), and history of exclusive breasfeeding (history=38%, non history=62%, p=0,034). Conclusion: Exclusive breastfeeding failure has corelation with independent factors. There are academic level, role a spouse, knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding, condition of breast milk in first week lactation, and history exclusive breastfeeding.
