Abstract

Background: Maternal mortality is still dominated by bleeding, preeclampsia and post partum infection, which can be anticipated from the beginning by providing comprehensive care prior to the onset of pregnancy or pretreatment, so that problems encountered in preconception can be managed to minimize and prevent problems during pregnancy. It is also one of the responsibilities of midwives to educateso that women of childbearing age can have knowledge and attitudes toward themselves in preparing pregnancy. Methods: This research was a observational analytic with a cross sectional approach. The samples were 72 women of childbearing age who fit the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Sampling was done with consecutive technique. Independent variables in this research was knowledge and attitude of woman of child-bearing age, whereas dependent variable was praconception preparation of nulliparous and multiparous fertile-aged (reproductive) women. To determine the difference, the collected data were tested with Mann- Whitney U Test at the significance level of 0.05. Results: The result of the research showed that asymp.sig (2-tailed) value was 0,142> 0,05 so it can be concluded that there was no difference of knowledge and attitude of woman of child of nulliparous and multiparous ages in preparing preconception in Puskesmas X Surabaya.
