Abstract
Background: One of the characteristics which marks the puberty has started in a women is a menstruation. A study showed that there was a declining mean of age at menarche, which 14,8 years old became 12,8 years old. Earlier study that had been done in SDN Mojo III Surabaya with interview method shows that some of the teenage girls felt shock, scared, anxious, and embarrassed and they thought menstruation is a uncomfortable experience, some of them even admitted that they do not want menarche in their life although it’s a physiological occurrence. The role of parents, especially mothers is an important thing for teenage girl to share information about menstruation. However, there are still some people who have the assumption that menstruation or menarche is taboo to be discussed, as well as assume that children will know by itself (Hastuti, et al., 2014). This research aims to analyze the correlation between mother-daughter with the preparedness for menarche. Method: This research is an observational analytic research with the cross sectional approach. Total samples are 110 students that are eligible with the inclusion and exclusion criteria in grade 4th, 5th, and 6th. Total sampling technique is used for sampling method. The dependent variable in this research is preparedness for menarche, the independent variable is mother’s role, and the control variable is parenting style. To determine significant level, acquired data is tested using Mann-Whitney U with α=0,05. Results: Statistical analysis shows no meaningful correlation (p=0,130) in the results of mother’s role with the level of psychological preparedness in teenage girl facing menarche. Conclusion: There is no relation between mother’s role with the level of psychological preparedness in teenage girl facing menarche in SDN Mojo III Surabaya year 2018.
