Abstract
Hypercholesterolemia sufferers in Indonesia reach 39.8% of the population. Extract of Avocado Seed and Leaf (Persea americana) have been shown to have antihyperlipidemic effect in experimental animals. This research conducted to analyze the effect of avocado leaf and seed extract combination on cholesterol total, LDL, and HDL of hypercholesterolemia mice induced by high fat diet and duck egg yolk. This research is an experimental study with posttest only control group design. The sample unit of this study consist of 30 mice (Mus musculus) and divided into 5 group, which are KO1 (normal group), KO2 (hypercholesterolemia group), KO3 (1st treatment group), KO4 (2nd treatment group), and KO5 (3rd treatment group). Induction phase is done for 35 days and treatment phase is done for 28 days. The measurement was done at the Balai Besar Laboratorium Kesehatan Surabaya. Data analysis was done by SPSS software. Administration of high fat diet and duck egg yolk to KO2, KO3, KO4, and KO5 can significantly increase the cholesterol total and HDL (p<0,05), while the increase of LDL is not significant (p>0,05). Administration of avocado leaf and seed extract combination in all treatment group tend to reduce levels of cholesterol total and LDL mice but not statistically significant (p>0,05). Meanwhile the effect of extract combination have different effect on HDL KO3 levels with HDL KO4 and KO5 levels, in which HDL KO3 levels decreased and HDL KO4 and KO5 levels increased. In conclusion, combination of avocado leaf and seed extract has the potential as an antihyperlipidemic. Keywords : Cholesterol, LDL, HDL, Avocado, Persea americana
