Abstract

Surabaya is one of the cities located in coastal area in Indonesia. More than 2000 of its citizen works as fisherman. Surabaya acclaimed for its potential in fishery sector. In 2015, diarrhea was still a thread to surabaya community. Diarrhea is one of cholera symptoms. Cholera is a bacterial infection caused by Vibrio cholera contamination leading to devastating watery diarrhea. The health and hygiene of Surabaya marine environment will certainly affect the capture fisheries itself, due to Vibrio cholera thrives in a aquatic environment. The aim of this research was to detect CTX gene presence in Vibrio cholera isolated from Stolephorus sp sold in Pabean Fish Market. There were 30 sample collected. Each sample weighed 25gr. The sample was enriched by APW and cultured onto TCBS. Samples the taken into Salinity level test and oxidase test for further identification. The CTX gene detection was done by running into PCR procedure. The result shows, 24 samples were contaminated by non toxigenic vibrio cholera. Means, CTX gene did no presence in vibrio cholera isolated form stolphorus sp sold in Pabean Fish Market. Wider range of sampling location needed to detect any possible presence of CTX gene around the community.
