Abstract

Background: Electrical injury is cause of burns which continue to be one of the most distressing trauma injuries in highly industrialized countries. In Indonesia, the number of electrical burns are typically underreported. Patients with electrical burns have problems which are unique to their type of injury. Objective: To evaluate the profile of electrical burn patiens in Department of Plastic Surgery Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya period 2014 – 2016. Methods: This is a descriptive non-experimental study and was performed by evaluating medical record of electrical burn patients. Results: The results of this study show all electrical burn patients were male with high voltage injuries, second degree of burn, and majority age range of 26-35 years old. Mostly TBSA of electrical burn patients was 0%-10%. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and pulmonary disease were found as history of disease in each of them 5.26% patients. Elevated transaminases were the most common complications and comorbidities. Electrical burn patients mostly didn’t undergo amputation. Those who underwent amputation tend to involve the upper limbs. The length of treatment for electrical burn patients was average during 11-20 days. Keywords: Electrical burn, descriptive study, retrospective method.
