Abstract

Introduction: The coverage of male in childbearing age who participates in Family Planning Programs is still quite low nationally. However, the participation of male in childbearing age in Family Planning Programs in Kenjeran Sub-district is quite high. The factor that influence Kenjeran Sub-district’s male in participate the family planning programs is still unidentified. Therefore, this study aims to explain the factors associated with the participation of male in childbearing age in the family planning program in Kenjeran Sub-district Surabaya. Method: This research uses quantitative research design with cross sectional approach. The numbers of respondents are 178 people that obtained from Simple Random Sampling. The variables of this research are technological factor, religion and philosophy, social and family attachment, cultural values, beliefs, and lifestyle, politics and legal, and also economy and education. The data were collected through a questionnaire instrument that was adapted from the Transcultural Nursing Theory, and then it analyzed by cross sectional approach. Results: Technological factors have a strong relationship rate (p = 0,000 and r = 0.633), religious and philosophical factors have a weak relationship level (p = 0.005 and r = 0.207), social factors and family attachment have a strong relationship level = 0,000 and r = 0.759), cultural values, beliefs, and lifestyle factors have a weak relationship level (p = 0,000 and r = 0.258), political and legal factors have moderate levels of relationship (p = 0,000 and r = 0.463), the economic factor has a weak relationship level (p = 0,000 and r = 0.267), and the education factor has a weak relationship level (p = 0,000 and r = 0.359). Discussion: The strongest factor influenced the participation of males in childbearing age in family planning programs is social factors and family attachment, whereas the weakest factor influenced the participation of males in childbearing age in family planning programs is religious and philosophical factors.
