Abstract

This research was conducted to found out the reproductive performance of mares in Bima District including the first age of mating, the duration of oestrus cycle and Foaling Interval (FI) supported by data of the signs of oestrus, the duration of oestrus, the duration of pregnancy, Postpartum Mating and Foaling Rates. The research methodology was survey method with questionnaire. The samples in this study were mares in Donggo sub-district and Madapangga sub-district of Bima District with normal physical condition which have mature with age above two years and have normal oestrus cycle. Data has been collected from ranchers using questionnaire, each sub-district was taken 12 samples. The data has been collected, grouped and tabulated using a quantitative analysis tool with a descriptive statistical approach. The results of reproductive performance of mares has average age of first mating 45 ± 17.08 months, average duration of oestrus cycle was 34.25 ± 3.88 days, average Foaling Interval was 380 ± 57,64 days and supported by additional data about signs of oestrus were anxious, brayed, aggressiveness, mucus discharge and frequent urination. The average length of oestrus was 5.78 ± 2.57 days, the average length of pregnancy was 323.75 ± 7.97 days, the average Postpartum Mating was 193.81 ± 48.04 days and the percentage of Foaling Rates was 42.09%.
