Abstract

Background : Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder that still becomes a serious problem. In Indonesia, According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in 2014, an estimated 9.1 million people are diagnosed as Diabetes Mellitus. Diabetes is one of hypertension risk factor. The advent of hypertension in diabetic patients accelerate cardiovascular and cardiac abnormalities. Objective : Study aims to know the relationship of blood sugar level and blood pressure in Diabetes Mellitus Type II aged more than 45 years. Method : A quantitative research of analytic observation study with cross-sectional approach. The sample was the outpatient DMT2 at Endocrine Unit RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya during Juli-September 2018 by consecutive sampling method. The independent variable was fasting blood glucose (FBG) and dependent variable was blood pressure status. Method of collecting secondary data by looking at the result of FBG and blood pressure from patient’s medical record. Collected data was processed by Spearman correlation test using SPSS program. Result : The number of DMT2 patients fulfilling the inclusion criteria were 110 people. 87,3% of patients had bad blood glucose levels control with an average blood glucose of 177,54 + 60,754 mg/dL. Most of the patients had stage 1 hypertension systolic blood pressure status over 38 people (34.5%) with an average systolic blood pressure of 139,29 + 17,718 mmHg and stage 1 hypertension diastolic blood pressure status over 39 people (35.5%) with an average diastolic blood pressure of 88,89 + 11,509 mmHg. Spearman correlation test result showed a significant relationship between FBG levels with systolic blood pressure of DMT2 patients aged more than 45 years with p value 0,000 and correlation coefficient value 0,514. And also found that Spearman correlation test showed a significant relationship between FBG levels with diastolic blood pressure of DMT2 patients aged more than 45 years with p value 0,000 and correlation coefficient value 0,374. From 110 patients, 60% of them had hypertension. Risk Ratio test result showed that fasting blood glucose level control > 100 mg/dL in DMT2 patient aged more than 45 years is a risk factor for hypertension with RR value 4.111. Conclusion : Blood glucose level and blood pressure positively correlated. Increasing the value of FBG, also increase the level of blood pressure. Glucose level control >100 mg/dL is variable related with the incident of type 2 diabetes mellitus in patient aged more than 45 years RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya period Juli-September 2018.
