Abstract

This research raises the question of Japan's foreign policy changes from idealist pacifism to proactive pacifism. Researchers take the perspective of the individual role of political leaders associated with the many analyzes that say that the Japanese foreign policy changes are due to the existence of external factors that influence it. Yet in retrospect, this change in Japanese foreign policy is largely due to the individual role of the influential political leader at the time. Therefore, this study focuses on one problem formulation: how does the idiosyncratic Abe have an impact on the change of Japanese foreign policy from idealist pacifism to proactive pacifism? The idiosyncratic in this regard is related to how Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as a political leader gave his influence in bringing about changes for Japan's foreign policy. The theoretical framework of this research covers the theories related to the basic conception of Japanese foreign policy which in its history has changed. In this study, researchers analyzed using an idiosyncratic theoretical framework that explains the personal characteristics of a leader in making a decision. The next framework is the theory related to foreign policy changes. Researchers use this theory to explain the behavior of foreign policy by using the personal characteristics of political leaders. Finally, using such a gradual theoretical framework, the understanding of Japan's foreign policy changes has its own significance in studying the role of individuals associated with decision makers in foreign policy.
