Abstract

This research entitled “Variasi Leksikon dan Tingkatan Tutur Bahasa Madura di Gili Ketapang, Kecamatan Sumberasih, Kabupaten Probolinggo: Kajian Dialek Sosial” aims to analyze the lexicon variations in the use of Madurese language along with the level of speech used by the Gili Ketapang community, especially those who work as employees and non-employees either at old or young age. The theory used in this study is social dialect theory. The object of the study is in forms of written and oral varieties. The method employed in this research is qualitative descriptive method. There were three techniques carried out to obtain the data collection, namely the determination of the observation area, the determination of the informant, and the compilation of the questionnaire. Techniques the data using direct note taking techniques and recording techniques. The data analysis techniques using basic techniques and advanced techniques. In addition, the method of presenting the results of the data analysis employed the formal method in which eight fields of meaning in the lexicon variation were found in Gili Ketapang, Sumberasih District, Probolinggo Regency, including activity (17 gloss); limb (12 gloss); house parts (3 gloss); time, season, state of nature, natural objects, and direction (4 gloss); pronouns (3 gloss); clothing and jewelry (2 gloss); work (1 gloss); kinship system (8 gloss). The results of the analysis of the variation in speech levels showed that there was mixing of BI into the BM and BJ into BM. Hence, I there were many speech levels, Enja’-Iya, Engghi-Enten, and Engghi-Bhunten vocabulary with BI and BJ patterns.
