Abstract

Humans do mobility to improve the quality of life both from the aspects of Education, economics, social, political and cultural. Likewise, students from outside Java mobilized to FISIP Airlangga University to improve the quality of life in the aspect of Education. Every human who moves will always undergo an adaptation process. This study aimed to find out how the cultural adaptation strategies of FISIP students from Airlangga University came from outside Java. This research is a study that uses a descriptive qualitative approach. This research was conducted by interviewing informants who had been selected by researchers, namely 9 overseas students who came from outside Java who were new undergraduate students at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Social Sciences, Airlangga University. This research was also carried out by the process of direct interviews conducted by researchers to informants. The theory used in this study is the Cultural Ecology theory of Julian H. Steward, where Cultural Ecology is a human adjustment to the natural environment. At the writing of the thesis researchers find out how the adaptation strategies carried out by students from outside Java at the FISIP Airlangga University to survive in the new environment. The results of this study indicate that the adaptation strategy carried out by students from outside Java to survive in Airlangga University is to adapt the language by way of accommodation of language, using technology, and through social environments besides food adaptation such as doing food accommodation and cooking food menus themselves according to taste, then do activities and hobbies that are liked, contact the family and belong to a kindship group.
