Abstract

Background. Low Birth Weight (LBW) and dental caries are the major problems in both developed and developing countries. There is a mechanism how LBW history can lead to dental caries. A disturbance in amelogenesis process will cause a porous enamel leading to plaque adhesion that cause a caries. Purpose. The aim of this research was to know the description of dental caries on Children aged 3-5 years with LBW history at the Selotambak Local Clinic, District Kraton, Pasuruan. Method. The type of this research was an observational descriptive. Samples were 41 children with LBW history at the Selotambak Local Clinic. Caries measurement that used was def index and oral hygiene measurement using PHP index. Result. In this research found that the dental caries severity in children aged 3-5 years with LBW at Local Clinic Selotambak showed a high category of def score with average 6.68 and the average of PHP score index that have a bad category was 3.26. The average of caries score on children with LBW are 7,8 and children with VLBW are 6,52. Conclusion. Children with LBW had a high caries severity.
