Abstract

Cesarean delivery is a labor procedure through surgical incision in the mother's abdomen (laparotomy) and uterus (hysteroctomy). Surgical treatment in labor will cause acute pain due to tissue damage. Postoperative pain is classified as moderate to severe pain. Effective pain control in the postoperative period play important role in improving patient quality of life. Inadequate analgesics in these postoperative patients may lead to impaired activity, stress, frustration, sleep disturbances, and emotional instability. The aims of this study was to analyze analgesics profile and to identify drug related problems. A retrospective method and descriptive analysis was conducted in this study which ranged at July to December 2017 period (N = 64). This study had been reviewed by Ethical Committee of Dr. Soetomo Teaching Hospital. The results of this study were analgesics given consisting of opioid and non opioid groups. The most common analgesics used during surgery were ketorolac (80%), pethidine (44%), tramadol (25%), fentanyl (17%), metamizole (11%) and paracetamol (8%). While the use of analgesics after surgery were ketorolac and mefenamic acid (100%), tramadol (5%) and metamizol (2%).Therapy received by patients could be either single or combination therapy. Potential drug-related problems in this study were sedation, nausea, vomiting, constipation, respiratory depression and allergies for opioid groups, while NSAID use might cause gastric mucosal irritation. From this study we conclude that analgesic use in patient with sectio caesarea labor including dosage, frequency, route of administration and duration of administration were suitable with the literature.
