Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the bacteria frequently causes subclinical mastitis in goats. Antibiotics are needed as a treatment of mastitis due to Staphylococcus aureus infection. This study was aimed to determine the resistance of Staphylococcus aureus in Etawa Crossbreed Goat milk in Kalipuro, Banyuwangi against penicillin, streptomycin and oxytetracycline antibiotics. A total of 58 milk samples which detected positive within screening of Californian Mastitis Test (CMT) were used in this study. The result of 17 subclinical samples were continued with Staphylococcus aureus isolation test using Manitol Salt Agar (MSA) and identification test with Gram straining, and biochemistry test. Moreover, the conclusion of this study showed that 16 (100%) samples were resistant to penicillin, 9 (56,3%) samples were sensitive, 2 (12.5%) samples were intermediate and 5 (31,3%) samples were resistant to oxytetracycline; 8 (50%) samples were sensitive, 2 (12.5%) samples were intermediate and 6 (37,5%) samples were resistant to streptomycin.
