Abstract

This research aimed to determine the existence of H5 avian influenza virus and its percentage of positive sample in population of Alabio duck (Anas platyrhyncus borneo) among three regions in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. This three regions were farmer group at Hambuku Raya Region in Hulu Sungai Utara district, Landasan Ulin Utara Banjarbaru Live Bird Market, and Martapura Live Bird Market. This research used stock sample collected in 2018 were taken from tracheal and cloacal of Alabio duck. There were 53 samples. These samples were inoculated to SAN embryonated eggs 8-10 days old, then incubated at 37oC temperature for three days, and tested using HA test and HI antisera of H5 test. There were 2 positive samples with 27 HA titer from farmer group in Hambuku Raya Region, and the other one with 28 HA titer from Landasan Ulin Utara Banjarbaru Live Bird Market. Both of the samples were also positive in HI test using antisera of H5. In Hambuku Raya Region there was one positive sample from 39 samples, which indicate 2.6.%. Meanwhile, in Landasan Ulin Utara Banjarbaru Live Bird Market there was one positive sample from 9 samples, which indicate 11.1% . In Martapura Live Bird Market showed non positive sample was found. Due to the presence of the virus, further research using Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) needs to be done in order to confirm the presence of the virus.
