Abstract

Most of the women nowadays have the right to vote, they have the chance to have the career and work outside of their houses. More than 60% women around the world are having employment. Therefore, women seem like they already get the rights to be equal to men. By using Mary Wollstonecraft’s liberal feminist theory as the main theory, this study tries to analyze several gender inequality issues that are strongly shown in the Unlocked (2017) movie as the problems that women still face in this era. By using a qualitative approach, this study explains briefly about how gender inequality issues, especially at a workplace, have been portrayed in this movie in depth. Also, by using a narrative non-narrative method, the study tries to analyze the selected scenes from narrative aspects, such as the dialogue and the story line, and the non-narrative aspects, cinematography and mise en scene of the scenes. As the result, the movie shows two main factors; anti-patriarchy and sisterhood that may help women to get out of the problems. This study is expected to give more understanding about the issues and liberal feminism theory in academic aspect.
