Abstract

The boundaries between human and technology have been blurred these days. The blurring can be seen from the development of Artificial Intelligence in humanoid robot such as Erica,JiaJia, and Sophia. They are designed to display a gendered female personality. This is what the radical feminist resist about technology. They believe that technology is a tool for patriarchy to maintain their power over women. However, that relationship between women and technology is denied by Haraway’s concept of cyborgs. It is depicted in the movie titled Ghost in the Shell (2017) which become the object of this research. The movie tells about a female cyborg character named Major. Using Donna Haraway’s concept of cyborgs in her Cyborg Manifesto and narrative and non-narrative method, this research aims to reveal how Major is portrayed as a female cyborg. As the result, the writer found that her shifting existence as a female cyborg in the movie is the representation of how women can be the subject by affiliating with technology. The assumption of women as the "victim" of technology is no longer exist, and they are competent to have a career in technology. As the conclusion, this movie promotes the idea of women empowerment in technology by the affiliation of women and technology.
