Abstract

Background: Surgical procedures in the past few years that leave a broad and difficult to close primary defect increase. Reported use of flaps to close defects has become a routine procedure done, reaching 310 cases in the last 3 years 65 cases (20.9%) of them in elderly patients (≥ 60 years). Reconstruction with flaps in the elderly (≥ 60 years) has an important role in the reconstruction of malignancies because the defects left behind often involve important structures such as blood vessels, bones, tendons and nerves. The aim of this study was to compare the success of axial flap in the elderly (≥60 years) without comorbid disease with adult patients (17-59 years) in Dr. Hospital. Soetomo Surabaya Methods: This study is a descriptive analytic study with a case control design that compares the success rate of axial flap defect closure in SMF Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Dr. Soetomo Surabaya during the period 2015 to 2017 in adult and elderly without comorbid disease. The complications observed in this study were 4, namely dehisen, fistule, infection, total necrosis and partial necrosis of the flap
