Abstract

Foreign education institutions with domestic educational institutions can work together to organize formal and non-formal education in Indonesia. This led to increasingly fierce competition between schools in Indonesia. In dealing with this, schools as organizations need to improve their performance both financial and non-financial performance to survive. This study aims to find out whether school performance is influenced by strategy and whether intellectual capital influences this relationship. Based on the results of the questionnaire distributed to 146 Muhammadiyah high schools in East Java, it was concluded that the strategy affected the performance of SMA Muhammadiyah both directly and indirectly through mediation of intellectual capital. This result gives a proposal to SMA Muhammadiyah to improve the quality of planning and implementation of strategies and try to utilize intellectual capital that will impact on improving performance.
