Abstract

Effect of single and repeated doses of aqueous extract of garlic bulb (Allium sativum L., Liliaceae) on antitetanus antibody titers in ddy mice had been studied. Single and repeated doses of the extract administered were orally in 3 groups of tested animals, i.e., for 7 days before, 7 days after and 7 days before and after subcutaneous and intraperitoneal immunization of the tetanus toxoid. The antibody titers were determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay at the seventh and fourteenth days after immunization. Results showed that the extract significantly increased the antibody titer and the highest titer was observed at the repeated administration at the dose of 0,36 g/kg body weight for 7 days before subcutaneous immunization.
